NO WORRIES on asking questions. I don't mind answering at all. 6wks sounds right in line w/my schedule. I wore the boot w/o crutches for less than 2wks. IMO, I would definitely wait to get the OK from the doc before you walk on your own. MUCH BETTER TO BE SAFE. Trust me...You don't want any setbacks. Some people might say GO FOR IT, but I like to play it cautious until the PROFESSIONALS give you the green light to progress on to the next step in rehab.

dont mean to keep asking but when did ur doc give u the ok to walk w/o the boot, just hoping come monday that he gives me the ok to walk w/o the boot, i know every doc is different but in my situation he told me about 6 weeks so just kind of wondering ur time table, and about how long were u wearing ur boot w/o crutches, i would like to walk w/o them but dont want to over do it with just a few days before i see the doc.

Hi Midrangej, a suggestion to your question you gave is you could buy SKINS for your lower legs and there are also socks that have strong taping included into the ankle. I recommend going down to the local sports store and check out what they've got. I ruptured my achilles in November last year and I'm doing sprints at 80-90%, but I'm not confident to return to AFL football.
Hey I really enjoy you videos..they have given me guidance on what to expect..I ruptured my achilles 7/16..surgery 7/24 and stitches removed 8/10...I have an dr appt 8/24 to get cast off and get boot then probably start PT soon..How is your confidence level with achilles? I haven't had much pain but heard 1st wk of PT can be painful..What was your experience with PT and could you give me a guideline on what you did 1st wk...2nd wk...Again thanks and keep the videos coming!!!

Thanks. My confidence level is improving everyday. I don't intend to do anything VERY aggressive for some time though until I can actually do more lower impact (walking, swimming, biking, etc.) activities for a longer duration.
The 1st wk of PT is pretty challenging. Here's what I did wk1: Recumbent bike for warmup (10min), "Scar Mobilization" (PT works on manual manipulation of the scar area and moves/rubs he ankle region since it is basically "locked". Did some HEEL to TOE movements w/boot.

Do you (or anyone viewing this) know if an ankle brace is recommended when you return to sporting activities? I hate I forgot to ask my doctor this question.
Do you have any pain in your knee? My doc said this was normal due to the immobility and nothing to stress over...

I did ask about that and it really does depend on the actual activity, your level of fitness before and the duration of the activity. They are braces that are more rigid than neoprene-type "braces" that simply keep the area less snug and warmer than w/o it.
I do NOT have pain in my knee currently, but DID have some light pain about a month ago as I was progressing through PT, but still relying a bit too much on the good leg, but as you balance out, the pain should leave.
