High School history can be boring (such as for the first 70secs of this vide), but ironically it's because they don't get into the details (rest of the video). But put the two together, and you have Part One of "Did we sleep through our History Classes?"; which gives a taste of the US forefathers' thinking and then describes one of the US's earliest imperialist and milataristic adventures.

  • the USA is not the only country to takeover other islands around the world. take a look at a map and see that most islands are or were under French , English , Dutch , Australian,Spanish or Polynesian control. The caribbean was empty or with native indians who were eliminated , moved or died by Euro desease. The Spanish never seem to get knocked for their brutal take overs here in Mexico and all to the South. they basically killed off the Mayans.

today it would be Japan owning the land.

  • @34sunbun

Yes, you are right. Other nations have had their ages of imperialism. Not too sure about Japan being imperialistsic in North America, if that is what you meant. Perhaps, my next clip, if I was to do one would be on US relations with Japan.

  • I'm sorry to ask such a dumb question when i should be praising your video for how well it was done, I can see from the comments there's a lot of controversy but I actually watched this video in my history class and every one thought it was great and did an amazing job at explaining what was going on. So congrats to you for an amazing video, now my dumb question is: what song did you use for the second part? i'd really love to know

    -thank you

  • @blackkittychan

Wow, kudos to your history teacher. The song is Clint Mansell's Lux Aeterna. It does have that haunting but very moving feeling.

  • America was wrong to steal Hawaiian land, may God right this wrong

  • @saucyisawesome

Wow, maybe a US - Japan relations video is needed. US come to help? Hmm. Setting aside the US forcing Japan from its isolationist foreign policy, Pearl Harbor was a target for Japan due to US recently moving its Pacific command fleet to that location. An imperialist Japan would not likely have cared much about Hawaii and would have focused more in Asia if it were not for the US stationing its fleet there.

Who said they voted more than once?

132,773 voted yes, 7,971 voted no

    132773/(132773+7971) = 94.3% voted yes for statehood

Funny how you keep calling dumb and tell me your "race" is better yet I prove you wrong and stupid every time. Is everyone in your family an asshole or just you?

  • Skip you dumb German fuck! ! Hi only voted for statehood once you dumb Fuck! ! Of course there was a high turnout you dumb German fuck! ! And 93% of the people CAME out TO vote but not just for statehood you dumb Fuck !!

  • @15baylie

Haunani-KayTrask's grandfather lobbied hard for statehood. The vote for statehood had the highest turnout ever in Hawaii. Over 93% voted for statehood. Facts. lol

  • Hawaii is the only state that doesn't celebrate statehood! Not even a parade! ! I wonder why??lol

  • @chubbypekingnese:

You talk as though you know many Hawaiians, will you please stop saying what we are ok with and happy with because you are obviously ignorant to the facts, and really have no right to a opinion on this matter unless you yourself are a Native Hawaiian and understand the culture, and history in entirely. This video only scratches the surface of what took place here in Hawaii.

  • @sarahslayer

It's up to people fix issues that people have created.

Hopefully native Hawaii people can one day once again be seen as independent nation governing it the way they feel is right and works best for entire their nation.

Pono sounds like good idea to go back to completely.

Hopefully there will be enough strong, reasonable and capable people to peacefully bring forward that change, some day soon.

Please keep spreading that story to other nations so we can support you more! <3

  • please go tell all occupy hawaii ding dongs to stop using the word occupy as it is highly offensive in our current situation . call it anything else. and when they find 99 hawaiians on each island to stand shoulder to shoulder with themI willstand out there too.

  • @FansFiltration No President of the United States of America will allow a handfull of people to restore the Hawai'ian kingdom.

Hawai'i is now a state that proudly flies the USA and Hawai'i state flag in its capitol and all government buildlings.

The government of the state of Hawai'i , the USA or the UN doesnt recognize the movement for Hawai'i to secede and become its own kingdom.

I dont beleive the citizens of Hawai'i want to give up their representative government to live under a monarchy.

  • @34sunbun - THE CARIBBEAN ISLANDS were NOT EMPTY! Nor were the rest of the 2 continents, NORTH and SOUTH.

    Are YOU fucking STUPID?

Christopher Columbus and the rest of the EURO - PEON jewellry men called the people "WEST INDIAN" when they arrived at the islands. THE ISLANDS are in NORTH America.

The MEANING of the word I N D I A N = INDEGENES = INDIGENOUS people who today ARE NOW called - Colored, Negro, African American, WEST INDIAN, Mixed Heritage, Bi - Racial, BLACK and NIGGA.
