  • It is my favorite piece of music ever written.

  • You have good taste. It is a glorious piece.

    Hi FiDiTanzer538- Can you please list the performers? This is the best version of the Palestrina Prelude that I've heard on the web so I'd love to know....

  • @ragadolls

    Hi! I put the performers in my description. Don't know why I didn't before now. The conductor is Christian Thielemann with the Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. It's not a recording of the complete opera, just the preludes as well as other Pfitzner and some Richard Strauss.

  • PFITZNER {Part Two}

    Having lived, studied and taught, 1974-1979, in/around Salzburg, Austria, I became acquainted with Pfitzner's compositions.

    "Von deutscher Seele" is a Romantic cantata.

    Before returning to New England for good, I photocopied most of his works!!! This includes most of his out-of-this-world 'Lieder' (songs) for Voice and Piano!

    For those not familiar with German, one pronouces BOTH the 'P' and the 'f' in his name..."P(eh)FITS-nehrrr"!!!

  • Thank you for the comments on Pfitzner. I totally agree about his music. It'a such a shame that it's not better known. "Palestrina" is full of gorgeous music. I noticed there is very little of his music on YouTube. Maybe I'll do some more videos using his music. I have a recording of "Von deutscher Seele" and will check out the passage you mentioned.

  • Materpiece of all time!

  • In my opinion, Pfitzner is one of the greatest composers of all times (in my special taste along with Wagner, R.Strauss, Mahler, Bruckner, Sibelius and so on). His role in the Third Reich is extremely difficult and ambivalent (as Strauss´ or Orffs history) but he is still suffering from that aspect. As Metzmacher announced, that he wanted to play "Von deutscher Seele" at the celibration of the German Union he touched a sensitive spot. It´s a pity, that work and reception are intermixed

  • Pfitzner's music is a good remedy for imsomnia !! (F.R. Malecksewen)

  • Could you please post your record of "Von deutscher Seele" and give other people the chance to find out what great music Pfitzner has written.

  • Thank you very much for posting-a very beautiful piece of music and one of my favourites.

  • Thanks for posting that wonderful music!

  • I completely agree with you, WagnerNietzsche! Thanks for that comment.

  • One of the most wonderful introductions ever written. Of course Pfitzner's weltanschauung concerning Jewry and his very unfortunate role and behaviour during the Nazi era must be condemned. But I think that the great music Pfitzner composed must be rated seperately. His great works do not have any racist background at all. His music is not capable to transport any strange ideologies as it rests upon the values of Christianity and German romanticism.

  • This is Beethoven in the Twentees century!!!!
