In 2006 the 3 most murderous cities in America was Detroit, Baltimore and New Orleans. Detroit had 418 murders or 47.3 murders per 100,000 residents. Detroit had more murders than San Antonio, Dallas, San Diego and San Jose combined and these cities all have a bigger population than Detroit. Baltimore had 276 murders or 43.3 murders per 100,000 residents. New Orleans had 162 murders or 37.6 murders per 100,000 residents.
