JSI program helps prepare, encourage future global leaders

For over 20 years the Woodrow Wilson School Since has hosted the Junior Summer Institute (JSI) as part of its tradition of promoting diversity in the student body and in the public service arena. Contributing to a special feature, participants in the 2009 JSI discussed the program and what students who seek to pursue graduate education in public policy and international affairs in a multicultural world may get out of this seven-week program.

JSI is structured to introduce or strengthen students' skills in economics, statistics, policy analysis, writing, public speaking and organization and time management, and participants learn methods used to analyze, implement, and interpret public policy at the domestic and international levels.

The 2010 PPIA Junior Summer Institute will continue this tradition by training future leaders for government service and other public service careers and by cultivating the development of leaders equipped to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds in an era of globalization. (Applications are due Novemeber 1, 2009; program requirements and applications instructions are available online at http://www.ppiaprogram.org/app/)
