Eco-friendly solutions are not always high-tech. Some are even low-tech, such as brewing coffee. The Java Shack in Arlington, Virginia has been designated "green" by the state's Department of Environmental Quality. Posted at the Java Shack is a list of more than a dozen "green" accomplishments. The coffee shop uses 100% recyclable products, and saves all the coffee grounds for recycling and composting. The Java Shack does not print receipts; it encourages the use of travel mugs or ceramic cups rather than disposable cups.
Ha ha. I remember when the Java Shack building was headquarters for Matt Koehl's NEW ORDER (aka American Nazi Party) thirty years ago. They used to fly the swastika flag from the building every April 20th (Hitler's birthday). A neo-nazi committed suicide in their once. Sometimes Bob Avakian's Revolutionary Communist Party USA goon squad from over in DC would drive by and fire shots at the place. If you know where to look you can still see where bullets gouged out pits in the brickwork.

Speaking of coffee and the environment - did you know that you can use your used coffee grounds to keep away ants, and it's great for the lawn.
