Here in Brazil we have a similar thing, a musical style called "moda viola", which are country songs with lyrics that tell stories - most of them very sad, that's true, but there are some comic ones, too. Some people consider them "kitsch" or "cheesy", but that's not my case, I like it very much.
I am 19 years old and when i was like 2 she was practically my babysitter my parents would put this tape in the vcr and i would just dance around watching it. She was my favorite. I was 3 and my dad took me to one of her concerts and i just sat on my sisters lap the whole time and didnt move. She was a big part of my childhood
