While in route home today I came upon this traffic stop and stopped to document it. Wile doing so a Coquille Police Officer apparently took offense with my videoing the stop and tried to hassle me about recording the audio portion of my video while he was speaking. I informed the office he was misinformed about Oregon law and he had no expectation of privacy. He then asked for my ID and I asked him if I was free to go and he said yes so I told him there was no need for him to see my ID.

  • If no law was broken, then why is it that you were sent a ticket later in the mail? I know this for a fact, because the police officer is a family friend :D

  • @TheRangerMonster1 Just like the police officer was misinformed about the law on recording, you have been misinformed about a ticket in the mail. If there was such a thing, it was sent to the wrong person.

  • Isnt this the same fellow who didnt mind 20/20 cameras on him while he was in pursuit of a man (who should have had the presumption of innocence (Nick McGuffin)..? I believe I even heard an officer say (on 20/20) that Nick deserved to be prodded, well before he was arrested. I have also read about many charges brought forwar where cases are dismissed due to lack of evidence. What is going on in that town? I have much respect for good LE and there are many. Its the bad ones that wreck ones faith

  • @aj5945 He's the one. Watched the 20/20 program.

  • You are wrong and the Officer was wrong. You are forbidden by ORS 165.593 from intercepting oral or wire communications where you are not party to the communication. It is an A misdemeanor. The Officer did have a DUTY to identify you by your DL, and probably just warn you, or maybe more appropriately, haul your wannabe street lawyer ass to jail.

I think all of the anti-police postings are funny. The second any of you are being victimized, you are the first to call the police for help.

  • @giantpoopcomet

As for your comment on ORS 165.593, I think you meant ORS 165.543. You must understand that I was a party to the conversation. Therefore no law was broken. Also, case law such as Skoog vs. Clack. Co. hold there must be an expectation of privacy. There was no expectation of privacy here.

As for identifying myself, under Oregon law that's not required, even in a Terry Stop, unless being cited or arrested.

  • Thank you, sir. I used this video as a lesson for my son in how to respectfully and intelligently assert one's civil rights.

  • Awww, poor Porky got his feelings hurt. You could tell the cop was mad that his "authoritah" wasn't respected. Good Job, cameraman.

  • @cryonix2069 the cameraman in the first place, he was just trying to preen himself for the rest of the onlookers, because his EGO had just been stomped on. Coquille cops aren't used to people standing up to them, so in the rare moment when it happens, they're caught off guard and get pissed. All I have to say is we need more cameraman types and less pork patrol...

  • Anyone who as ever been to Coquille or know someone who has, can easily tell you they have more useless cops and speed traps then most cities nationwide. Also most pull overs require passengers to exit vehicles and let the nice cops search your vehicle... If this isn't unreasonable search and seizure, than I must be a public educated retard. Further for the negativity towards the cameraman, if he wasn't under arrest and causing a commotion, than the Cop shouldn't have wasted his time confronting

  • FAKE...he didn't shoot the dog ten times in the face for looking angrily at him

  • is that Weblaly?

  • "Are you recording?" "Yes, video and audio." "Well you didn't tell me you were recording, so you're committing a crime." HUH??? Could that cop be any dumber?

  • no expectation of privacy.. great answer !!!

  • @miriem8907 Your a classic example of a coos county imbecile. Police dont give us rights! The constitution clearly says "god" given rights. Nowhere at all, not one spot, does it say anything about police officers. And these officers are prime examples of why i will never live in that county again.

  • This cop was being nice. Your just a d-bag with a camera.

  • @Pafoofnik1

Lol I kno the difference between the two words. Maybe I didn't structure my sentence well. It's been awhile since I was in school, but I believe the def is essential. Anyway, keep up the good work

  • @miriem8907: Red Herring. I never said a thing about police. Also, I said inherent, not inherit.
