Old Tombstone Studio Indie Film Project "Highgraders" posts this clip of a classic stagecoach chase "re-enactment" done as a comedic surprise in the First Sound Science Fiction Western, the 1935 Gene Autry "Phantom Empire". Our Indie film project studies these "Hommage" clips in our film-making series posted on Google. These Serial Westerns, and this one predictive movie in 16 parts foundationed many of today's best "Home Studio" films storming the Film Festivals. MORE 'making' of "Highgraders" will be posted on GoogleVideo, 2008. Search Old Tombstone Studio. Please send us business! Project sponsors welcome.
The Phantom Empire serial was re-edited in two features by Republic in 1940. This was to capitalize on Gene Autry's fame as their major western star. The features were titled "Men with Steel Faces" and "Radio Ranch." These were usually shown in third run theaters as an added feature.

I remember going to the Saturday kids movies in my home-town and following these serialized shows. Each week the hero would find himself in a situation that appeared to be his end, only to go back the next Saturday to find the hero had managed to extricate himself just in the nick of time! LOL
