@AmphibiousReconMSOB Flak* and a Flak jacket is composed of Ballistic Nylon so comparing the two doesn't make sense. There is also no protective piece for the "Arm pits"
@usmcgunner58 I wore the first sapis in 2001, they were ceramic with a air bubble wrap on the strike face side. and they would crack easier. the Sapis today, Im sure they improved or if you wear steel composite SAPIs. I noticed that even the flak jacket changed twice since I EAS'd. I was issued the 1980s era vest when I went in. in 2001 the new interceptors came out. Now you Marines have a 2nd or even 3rd generation armor.
@DevastatedX one front and one back plate when I was in. No rifle bullet side protection, other than the flak jacket. today they get front, back and two side SAPI plates . Keep in mind, a bullet can still penetrate and at times does, this armor. No armor is 100 per cent guaranteed. these SAPI plates weigh 7 lbs each, and 4 lbs each side SAPI . the kevlar vest weighs 8 lbs.
Thank You for are armed forces service In Iraq and Aganistan

@DevastatedX
level 1 dragon skin = flap jacket a little weaker then kevlar a 7.62 can go straight through certain spots like around the arm pit area of the armor.
