I had a real life situation my father tells me where food refusal would have saved the dog's life. He's 75 yrs old and in WW-II he was 9 yrs old. His family farm in Ukraine was visited by German Soldiers that were separate from their main regimen. They were hungry, but the fenced farm was protected by a GSD & St-Bernard Mix.
