Lugar: It's time to reaffirm NATO

Senator Dick Lugar addressed the Atlantic Council today on the need to reaffirm NATO at this critical moment. In questions after the speech, Senator Lugar discussed reinvigorating the common defense of NATO member countries, the importance of completing START Treaty negotiations, that NATO should not be bashful about expansion, the U.S. should engage more with the Czechs and Pols given the shift on missile defense, Congress should pass the Kerry-Lugar Pakistan aid bill, the White House needs to decide on an Afghanistan policy more quickly, a NATO Membership Action Plan for Georgia should still be pursued, and NATO members need to have a common understanding of security among each other.
