Ali burnt some people and this news reached Ibn 'Abbas, who said, "Had I been in his place I would not have burnt them, as the Prophet said, 'Don't punish (anybody) with Allah's Punishment.' No doubt, I would have killed them, for the Prophet said, 'If somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him.' "

@whitehead130 If death penalty for apostasy is not mentioned in Kur'an, then why did the imam said otherwise? Do you disagree with what the imam said?

That's what's strange about Muslims. They held violent protests against a Dutch cartoon which depicted Muhammad as a terrorist but NO MUSLIMS protested against an imam who said that apostasy is punishable by death. Why are Muslims not protesting against this imam? Don't they think that the death penalty is evil?
