This is a clip of a comic opera by Donizetti named Viva la Mamma. The role is Guglielmo and he is the typical tenor with over exaggerated tendencies and temperament. The opera is not performed much but it has some wonderful musical moments and I feel it should have a place in our modern opera houses.
Unbelievable performance. Great!

Is he singing in Italian? Really? However, bravo.
I really could not believe it existed an opera by Donizetti called Viva la mamma! In fact, it doesn't. According to Ashbrook, it's Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali, that somehow got this new title in a Munich production in 1969 (and then in San Francisco in 1975). In London it even got the title The Prima Donna's Mother Is A Drag (which, by the way, is true)!

Michael, before you become too famous, when are you coming to Chicago Lyric Opera? Let me know and let me buy a drink so I can hear you sing The Pearl Fisher's aria. Thanks for your voice.
