@b44ts the songs are very similar only on paper. when i listened to this at first i thought a couple of lines were similar and the sequence of chords are similar although that isnt saying much cause 90% of todays pops songs use the same 4 chords. i think the message of happy xmas (war is over) is so much more important than the fact that there are similarities between the two songs.

@DrBukcake This was included in a 1966 LP record by the Hollies, the John Lennon pastiche/ rip off was from 1971 ! But I think by now you will already have found this out..... ?

@DrBukCake War is over was written years later than this song.

AND SO THIS IS XMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! YOU GUYS STOLE THIS FROM JOHN LENNON AND YOKO ONO!!!! I HOPE JOHN IS GONNA SUE YOUR ASSES!!!!!!!
-
this melody is old folk song, goes back to the 18th century. you can hardly call it stealing.
-
Just learned that Lennon stole this melody. And to think he made fun of George for doing that.
-
Lennon did steal it to the Hollies!!!! It's a shame! Thief!
Too many pseudo-composers in the business...
