@NoDestinyLive4Now Yes, that does make sense. He is able to reflect upon and draw upon his darker episodes. He certainly has had notable periods of prolonged depression: be it drug induced or throughout periods of the '80s.

@arabiansanchez I remember seeing him in an interview just recently where he said that because he has felt those depressive states before rather strongly, even though he is not depressed he can go back to that state rather easily without really "experiencing" it, rather like "telling" it... Don't know if I'm explaining it right. I don't know the name of the interviewer, but it was one of his more recent interviews.

@NoDestinyLive4Now I don't recall where but I think it was a French gig in his latter years of performing (late 90s perhaps). Bowie himself remarks that his setlist is particularly glum up to that point and specifically states that he does not see himself as a depressive or melancholy person but it worries him how easily such things come to him for his lyrics- like it's an indication of the world in general.
