My son is now 9 and he no longer trains in TKD. Instead he trains in Muay Thai so it's that, wrestling, and BJJ. Since my last post 2 years ago, he has since won numerous BJJ tournaments including the Pan Kids so he has progressed nicely. He also trains MMA in his BJJ academy but it's closely monitored by numerous adult BJJ black belts one of which is Kurt Osiander whom you may have heard of. Anyway, no slamming is still one of the major rules. So far, it's safe and fun.

@RCHeliPilot yeah im 16 and I train in the same arts are your son but I don't think this is healthy for any child. Training is great but this is a little to harsh

What are the rules in these tournaments? HOw are kids in MMA programs get ranked? I assume there is no belt system.

Slamming like that can't be healthy for young kids.
I would prefer that my kids be proficient in each individual martial arts before they enter into an MMA event at which point they will be old enough and better than someone who has been doing MMA all along. Just my $0.02
My sons is 7 and trains in Tae Kwon Do, Wrestling, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at seperate schools but only Sports Jiu Jitsu combines striking with submission grappling but no striking once the grappling starts.

Since your boy wrestles, you have to admit that wasn't a slam. The ref was yelling, "Easy, put him down easy." Which he did.
In Collegiate & Pankration, slamming is illegal. Pts deducted & disqualification for the slammor.
Greco & Freestyle wrestling encourages the "slam." If the slammee can't continue, he loses.
The No Gi & JJ matches that I've been to barely allow takedowns.
