WHy did he dismount? You can ride mounted on a good cross country horse.

when i swim a horse we have to take off our saddle and when they start swimming we have to let go of the reins and hold the mane.
We have a horsepond with an Island at my camp you can take the horses around.
Some think its like a water jump and try to jump into it but they just land next to the island lol.

Getting off your horse when swimming through deep water is alot easier on the horse

i like your method of training. I don't know if you fell off or got off but i think getting off in general to observe the horse was a good idea. Can't wait to see you guys swimming again lol. And Thunders a beauty.
