that sucks. i don't think any man has any business talking to women about their weight. men don't have women's bodies...they have no idea how women's bodies work (other than a purely clinical sense) and they don't know how women's bodies retain fat. women's bodies have soooo much more importance, if i may be poetic, than men's bodies. men should keep it to themselves because they have no concept.
i totally sound like a crazy feminist. sorry.

Designers are lazy and only want to make it easier for themselves. It's easier to make clothes for skinny women because they look a as they would on hangers, and also because skinny bodies aren't that variented, however if youre curvy, you curve in different. Nobody is the same, which makes it difficult to design clothes that sells alot..

It's an ironic thing that in many cases a woman can only lose weight and get fit when she's made to feel comfortable in her own skin at the weight she is. I wish there was even just ONE magazine out there with full-figured, 'average-sized' women in it, filled with inspirational stories about famous and non-famous people. I wonder what effect that would have on our girls? Also, I really really want to know if a woman is capable of achieving incredible success in this world at a 'big' weight??????

@Asxhmoula well most big women are genetically different so of the foods we eat are not going to be in our hips and thighs. Every plus size woman is different, of course to gett a pear shaped body, that would take years and hard work and dedication and a very strict diet regime.

The worrying thing is not that women today are getting fatter. It's that they're putting this fat on in the wrong places. Instead of laying it down on the hips and thighs, they are putting it on the upper torso. We have become waistless with fleshy wings growing out of our backs and this is not natural and it is not desirable either.

@lucybrown999 at 8:10 she makes that point very cogently :) the point of the documentary is that all women are beautiful, and for society to promote any kind of stereotype is wrong.

I said frock. lol!

@robzrob Actually, studies have shown that women who have a chubby lower body are actually healthier than skinny women with 6 pack abs. If you are slothful, you stand a much bigger chance of dying young.

@tamschillin Very true. I was 14 in 1990. I weighed 99lbs at 5'4, and people said i was fat. It was a horrible time, I see girls today that have a bigger/rounder figure and it is great.

i would have liked to have seen Dawn walk in that dress. the initial model made it look good while she walked (so you could see the back). i'm sure it would look wonderful if you saw Dawn walk in it.
even though i find this really empowering as a more full figured girl... when i look around at my friends and my community its the thinner girls who have partners... there always seems to be a skinner girl... and she gets the partners.... i find it very frustrating and very hypocritical......
but Dawn French really is a remarkable woman and i wish we could see more her in America!

the couture gown at the end has an ENORMOUS oversized bow, that just OBSCURES her! what kind of choice was that?! what does THAT say about clothes for heavier women? a terrible ending to a great piece.

I think that was just the style of the dress. It is a ridiculous design for any woman fat or thin. One of the things I really love about Dawn French is how vivacious and confident she is in her own skin. She is huge, but she wears it so beautifully.
