I made recordings for Rand & Nina solo battles, as well as the boss you face when entering this dungeon, but they weren't really worthy of being in a video so I just skipped those.

I actually found this boss battle to be fairly complicated. This is often the case with BoF 2 LLG bosses, but once again, the problem is that there isn't a single logically correct way of preparation and selecting commands in the battle that guarantee you victory. It's one of those annoying battles where winning depends on other factors.

Before we can fight the boss, we have to beat three Zombies. They give experience and after being defeated the boss battle immediately follows. This means, first of all, that all characters but one (Ryu this time) should die in order not to get unwanted experience, but also that this dreadful boss battle begins with Ryu soloing. Zombies themselves aren't anything complex and are actually quite harmless. This video may not be good demonstration of it, but I'd just like to note that a special (critical) attack coming from Sten in his Shaman form results in 240+ damage to one of the zombies. Impressive, knowing his level.

We want to enter the boss battle with as much HP as possible, and preferably AP as well. Once two zombies are dead, all characters get killed off (I thought I could kill them off in the beginning of the battle but it appears that Ryu can't solo even two of them). I wait for the right moment to finish this battle but apparently you can't enter the Necroman battle with max AP simply because you get some extra after levelling up. Oh well.

Anyway, Ryu gets to solo the first turn of the Necroman battle and this is where the 'fun' starts. We can survive his physical attack just fine (I'm not absolutely sure if Ryu can survive a combination of his AND the zombie's physical though) and we don't care much about his status attack since we're protected against it. However, if he casts Death it's game over and we have to try again.

In this battle, I managed to get my party back in just two turns but Jean kept getting killed with the nasty Death spell every time I needed him to restore Ryu's MP so this slowed me down a bit.

When ending the battle, we face the same problem as before: we can't be sure Ryu doesn't get instakilled exactly before he does the finishing attack. I also make sure everyone dies as quickly as possible, that is, in two turns and no more. Technically, if the boss casts Death on the turn preceding Ryu's final attack, we lose (Jean kills himself when he's alone at 1 HP). So yes, this is risky stuff and I'm glad I didn't take much time to get through this boss.

  • Again, congrats on advancing. For Jean being the target of Death spell: probability of being target of any attack is determined by position (front one gets half the hits actually), though you really seem unlucky with it :)

  • Yeah, I noticed the positioning affects not only attack and defence. I guess it could've been worse: the boss could've KO'd me in one of the crucial moments with the Death spell or concentrated on Ryu instead of Jean.

  • looks like an interesting game...maybe I should try it sometime. What console was it for?

  • Yes, you should. The original is for the SNES but it's been released for GBA too. I've never played the latter but Animeguy says you get 3x the experience and the cash from battles in the new version so you may want to get that one to save yourself time spent grinding.
