My daughter has also been misusing insulin to stay thin. She had to withdraw from college. In the 2 months she was in school, she was hospitalized twice for DKA. She is now in an eating disorder clinic and I'm happy to say that I think she is going to make it! Thank you so very much for sharing your story in such a powerful way. I'll be thinking of you and sharing in your continued success!!

@GeorgiaReevo Hi, yes, I would eat and eat until I was sick, but soon after I would be starving again... It caused the worst hunger I had ever felt in my life. I would wake up in the middle of the night to find myself in the kitchen eating. It really isn't worth it. I always felt very ill, and, years later, I have some complications.

My biggest empathies to all of us who struggle with this every day. I've had diabulimia since 1991 when I was first diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I also have neuropathy and mild retinopathy, but I'm still alive! I'm now 2 and a half months insulin-purge free! Hang in there dear ones, I promise I will too! HUGE HUGZ!

@SuperBleeBloo8497 I think treatment is a good idea. This causes long term complications and can kill you. Also, being inpatient somewhere will get you out of your house, and will also be able to help your mom understand the disorder. Do you know where you are going for treatment? Hugs and best wishes to you.

@astabbyful Hugs. Hang in there. Once you start taking insulin again, it does get better, though it might take over a year for your weight to stabilize. Have you looked into eating disorder treatment? I know life is hell with this disorder. Reach out for help, and let those around you know what is going on. It will be difficult, but your life is worth so much more than being ill, weak, tired, thirsty, hungry, and on the verge of death all the time.
