I have been neglecting one my my main influences, Mike Watt, for some time now, and it is high time I give him some tube space. This time I am going with some of his late 80s and early 90s stuff with fIREHOSE. This is a trilogy of tunes off of their second album, fROMOHIO.

Mas Cojones, Some Things, Time With You

This album is kind of special to me because I live in Ohio, for one, and for two, it uses so many styles of bass playing and plays them so cleanly that I used it as a practice album for a few months. There are some great tunes on here!

So in honor of the great Mike Watt and this great post-punk album, I am posting not one, but two Trilogies off of this album in the next few days. The duet of videos should be a total of six tunes, and should catch me up and atone for my neglectful ways.

Another reason I did this video today is the fact that I was sick for over a week, and then I pulled a muscle in my neck. Metal may be a little too intense for me this weekend. We shall see.

  • Mike Watt!!! Some True Justice To a Bass Hero!!!

  • Well, I am not sure I can do "justice" to one as clean and powerful as Watt, but I give it my best.

  • Great work again. Lol - like Satch I was expecting a hair metal cover at first - but then noticed I had misread =). How do you make that your skin doesn't peel off while torturing your strings like this, hehe.

    5* from bloody cold germany

  • I often blister the tips of my fingers if I play more than a few hours. When I feel a tingle, I know it is time to stop or risk losing my calluses. Half-blisters, once healed, make excellent playing calluses, though. The object is to make the ends of one's fingers as hard and dry as possible.

  • your a great bass player and u got the Watt down heavy bro!!!!

  • hey brother, you should do a cover of brave captain by fIREHOSE I've been trying to learn it for a while and I just cant get it, I think a video of someone playing it will help.

    thanks

  • Great job! I'm a bassist and (obviously) a big fan of Watt. You nailed those lines and captured some of his vibe--there's something about Watt's stuff that causes one to act as enthusiastically as he does while playing it.

  • Booyah!!

  • you use 3 fingers?

  • This stuff is just amazing, no words could describe the creativity, impressiveness just simply breath taking and jaw droping, amazing job zodiak
