I need to rewatch the video because I was focusing on the camel toe ;)

I agree for artistic reasons you do not need the meter, but I do product photography. If I am lighting an item with uniformity, I need to make sure my light distribution is even.

@boogersnut Um yes but he isnt trying to expose for the background is he, the girl is the only subject he is shooting for. So it doesnt make sense for him to measure every where else. His technique with the histogram works, So why would you spend 500 on a light meter when you can easily go without it. By the way the inbuilt light meters these days are very good anyway

so, .... you are using your camera as a light meter?

Don't even finish the video, the zombie part, EPIC FAIL... a light meter will speed your work and perfect you knowing the light, so you MASTER the light.

I've been shooting for 15 years. He's not metering correct at all. When you use a handheld meter, you check all areas of your subject, the highlights, the shadows, even the background. The light meter to my knowledge doesn't measure greys, but more so, how a light falls onto a subject. Knowing how to use a light meter effectively cuts down the setup time by 50%.
