One of the greatest natural born entertainers in the entire world Mr. Richard Wayne Penniman, known more famously to the world as Little Richard starting recording in 1951 but did not have any major success until around 1955. It was then at the suggestion of Lloyd Price that he began recording for Art Rupe's Specialty Record label. With hits like Tutti Fruitti, Rip It Up, Good Golly Miss Molly, Send Me Some Lovin' and Slippin' And Slidin' Richard caused quite a stir in the music world and proved to be a force that would not be kept down. His influence as a performer/singer/writer/instrumentalist could never be understated. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Everley Brothers, Jimi Hendrix are a few among the many who benefited from his all-out style.

Here he is seen performing in 1974 on the awesome pioneering music performance variety show, Midnight Special co-hosting w/ Wolfman Jack who sits down and does an interview with him. I have segued the performances, which may not be in the order that they actually were shown but were how I felt that they worked the best. Hopefully you will be able to enjoy it to the end!

I infer no copyright infringement by posting this and sharing it with anyone who otherwise might not be lucky enough to ever see it. I won't be happy about taking it down if requested to and hope that I don't have to but will comply as necessity dictates. Thank you!

Richard performs:

1. Greenwood, Mississippi

3. Ooh Poo Pah Doo @ 7:03
4. Interview w/ Wolfman Jack @ 11:17

  • @ensconse forgot to mention: Richard also did IN THE NAME on that show, somewhere between THE MIDNIGHT SPECIAL and FREEDOM BLUES. :)

  • Original songlist, in order: THE MIDNIGHT SPECIAL / GREENWOOD, MISSISSIPPI / OOH POO PAH DOO / FREEDOM BLUES

  • @MahoganyArchives My-my-mymy! Can anyone explain why this was not on The Midnight special DVD set? I saw this originally August 16th, 1974! That funky-funky 4-4!!!

  • Little Richard proving that he is the Emancipator of Soul and the true the King of Rock n’ Roll. Often imitated, but never ever duplicated Prince, Michael, Mick Jagger, Elton John, the Beatles all wish they had his vocal power and all that extra thang that makes him the Kang, I mean King. Ooh my soul! Get down Richard. If it weren’t for YouTube the powers that be would never ever release this stuff cause it aint bragging when you can prove what you got. Long live the King!

  • Remember when i first saw this guy perform decades ago. I really Got Him straight away and I think he's a one-in-a-million.

  • Saw this back in '74! I'm shocked! I'm stunned!
