189 is a respectable score for five pin especially considering that you haven't done it too much. To prevent the ball from hooking you must hold your wrist straight and point your middle finger straight toward the headpin. Although hook balls do work, straight balls are preferable as hook balls are more likely to end up with aces or leave a corner pin up. It is possible for the ball to go between the headpin and the 3 pin and hit nothing if the ball is hooked like tenpin.

They won't let me back there lol! , so I dont know of they are SW1s, CA1, or 81-5s.

One problem about our stringsetters is: when the pins are drawn up into their 'spotting cells' i guess i'll call them, they come back down again fast, leading to corners falling into gutters, the headpin WAYY off spot, and in general, really weird-looking setups, lol
Next time I'm bowling I'll bring my Cam along and try and show you all, lol

I really don't see how string pins can land on the lane from the pinsetter and be out of place. The only time I've ever seen that happen was when old knots from a previous string break were left inside the pin and not removed from the pin by the person who did the repair. Sometimes the tail of the old knot falls outside the pin underneath it's base causing it to tip over or move when it comes back down from the pinsetter.
