an original beat? i am even more impressed.
I am taking your advice and moving from annoying practice pad onto the pillow with a fat 2B pair of sticks. Your high-hat chops sounded really good - got me motivated again. My ultimate goal is to play #41 (dave matthews). The hh pattern in that song is brilliant.

Haha by original I basically meant I winged it and played a slightly different beat thatn the beat in the song. Hope my advice works for you, just remember it's not the only way, but it's just what worked for me. Although instead of 2B sticks, I'd recommend marching sticks, the biggest baddest heaviest ones you can get at a music store to build up your wrists more. Also, while building up strength and speed on the pillow, use the pad too for control and rebound with the fingers.

saw your other vids. I'm pretty impressed with your sticking, especially on your "messin round" video. Can you give me any pointers on how i can improve my speed. How long have you been practicing, what is your routine like? How long does it take you to learn a song... for example this Apologize one?

Thanks. As for speed, that's something I'm severely lacking in these days since I don't play nearly as much anymore, but what worked for me was I used to grab a pillow and run through rudiments with the biggest heaviest marching sticks I could find, mainly singles and doubles, and that made my wrists faster, BUT most importantly, my hits STRONGER too.

I'm horrible with practicing, and haven't really improved over the last 3 years to be honest with you, and I never really had a routine either, just sat down and played whatever I felt like with an mp3 player. It doesn't take me too long to learn a song since I never plan on playing it note for note, like Apologize for example, everything I played was original and totally different since that's how I have fun playing along to songs. All I really do is try to nail down the structure of the song.
