This performance of this cantata definitely won me over for the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, 27 years ago.
I am no believer, but for me Bach's religious music does evoke an all-too human longing for happiness that may or may not be within our reach. Sheer musical ecstasy.
Max van Egmond's performance (in a tv broadcast of this cantata as conducted by René Jacobs) pointed me at the beauty of the bass aria "Bestelle dein Haus". A few curious musical lines that always make me happy to sing.

@MegaDuprat Well said. I also know that I have a radio recording of Gustav Leonhardt at home, to lead the St. Matthew Passion was performed in this church in 1989. As he thought, just before the recording studio. The best recording of all time.

Je me souviens avoir entendu en mars 1989, la Passion selon Saint-Matthieu dirigée par Gustav Leonhardt à l'église Saint-Clotilde, à Paris.
Jamais un musicien ne m'a fait comprendre comme lui la dimension humaine et intemporelle de cette musique. Le nom de J. S. Bach est et restera associé à celui de Gustav Leonhardt.
