Almost two-thirds of Indonesians have a negative opinion of the United States and anti-American sentiment is running high just weeks before the November 4 presidential election.

Al Jazeera's Step Vaessen asked three Indonesians if a new president in the White House could change that view.

  • Funny how Ahmed Ruthman, an Indonesian understands American politics better than most Americans.

  • Totally agree with Ahmed Ruthman (from Hizb el Tahrir). Speak the truth brother. He should have mentioned who's paying the Campaign costs of both Obama and McCain. Answer: the same special interest groups (like Military Inustrial Complex (Raytheon, Boeing etc), Israel Lobby (AIPAC et al) and others.

  • you kind of lose you're objectivity and sense of perspective to comment on issues going ahead when you state things like W is the worst president ever had and McCain and Palin are parochial. These are not so much normative statements that are needed to analyze what's happened and what's happening going forward. The guy on the right and left maintained better objectivity while keeping their viewpoints. the chic in the middle loses credibility..

  • fuck smelly pakistani shithead like you. hahaha...

  • FUCK OBAMA !

  • Certainly people can appear to "hear" the words of others and interpret them anyway they desire and such is the case for individuals who are fanatical in their belief that they are correct or even superior.I agree that Obama has a broader world view and the people who support him seem to be comprised of a wider and diverse compilation. I see no falacy in Obama reminding the country that there is HOPE-not a "promise none will fail!"I'm confident in my assertions. McCain offers nothing but hate.

  • I hear resentment and unsympathetic understanding of Republicans in your comment. Communism, leaning on society, feeling that people owe you things - these are all easy to understand and they are the opiate that the masses are controlled by. It is harder to see the Republican as the warrior for personal independence, Liberty, the defender of "pursuit of happiness" but not the guaranteer of "happiness" for all. Some must fail or all fail to be competitive. Barak promises none will fail.

  • Whoever referred to him as an Emperor? The so-called "Emperor" is who McCain supporters want HIM to be. The "flawless" maverick who upholds that popular image of what America is supposed to be, the images on the dollar bills and the carvings at Mt.Rushmore, right?NO MORE OF THAT. Time for a change.

Obama released his information. If McCain was born in PANAMA and HE can run for President, then so can OBAMA who was born in HAWAII--the 50th state (became a part of the USA in 1948).

  • McCain has made all his records public. Obama keeps his papers private. Obama is no Emperor, as long as American people known Liberty.

Obama must release: His medical records, his records from Hartford and Occidental colleges, his VAULT COPY birth certificate, his client list when he was an attorney, his real relationship with Odinga (where Obama beta tested his "Change" and revolution style), Frank Marshall David (communist mentor), his Middle East funding source, CAIR and ACORN ties.

  • "..Obama attend school in Indonesia, he must have been an Indonesian citizen(blah blah)"

Aw, bullshit. Obama was born in Hawaii. McCain was born in PANAMA. Hawaii is America's 50th state. Who's the American, now you DUMB ass?

  • Obama had spent four years in Indonesia? And every Indonesians know him and love him? ...NOT! The only thing they know Obama is through the supports of medias and lobbyists in Washington and in Mass Media. Believe me, average Indonesians dont even know what's going on in America right now. The only thing they like Obama; pointing to the people that knows something about Obama. That is like .01% population of Indonesia - that he is a Muslim and that's all. The very important is individual rights!
