Christopher Plummer arrives for "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" premiere at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York on December 14, 2011.
Canadian actor Christopher Plummer is relishing an impressive third act in his career.
The 82-year-old earned his first Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Leo Tolstoy in 2009's The Last Station, and his seventh Tony nod for his Henry Drummond in a 2007 Broadway revival of Inherit the Wind.
In between, there was his celebrated performance of Julius Caesar at the Stratford Theatre Festival's 2008 production of George Bernard Shaw's Caesar and Cleopatra, and last year's Prospero in Shakespeare's The Tempest.
Perhaps the best is yet to come for the multi-talented star of stage and screen. Certainly, Plummer is bound to pick up another Academy Award nomination for his well-received portrayal of a senior citizen who reveals his homosexuality in Beginners. He's in the middle of preparing a one-man show called A Word or Two, bound for the Stratford Festival in August, and likely headed to Broadway afterward.
He also co-stars in the English-language film version of Stieg Larsson's popular novel, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which opens in theatres Dec. 20.
In the crime thriller, Plummer is Henrik Vanger, a wealthy Swedish businessman who hires journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig) and computer hacker Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara) to solve the mystery of Vanger's relative, who disappeared 40 years earlier. The investigation leads to some horrific confrontations, and more than a few scary revelations underscoring the seamier side of life.
