  • @gyreenedoc to do what??-- if you mean fuel for steam?--wood is ideal..wood pellets too..but anything that burns--even garbage..charcoal is good too...propane as well or a combination of a bunch of things..

  • @porpoisefathom .... what are we going to use for fuel to do that?

  • @doughesson thats debatable. Anything can be engineered. just takes some ingenuity. If i used a 3/4 inch copper tube and focussed 80 000 btu's of propane flame on it--I assure you it will give plenty of force and temperature. Monotube boilers are in essence exactly that! however --simply put wood now is cheaper than diesel or gas and can fire a boiler for far less than fossil fuels. the only reason steam is obsolete is because it was slow..nothing more-- people want to push a button and go....

  • @porpoisefathom Instant demand heaters can't build up enough heat to superheat water into steam. That works well enough when heating bathwater but not to propel a ship.

  • @porpoisefathom Actually,Diesels are more efficient b/c you don't burn as much fuel before going to work as you do w/ a steam plant which has to build up pressure before getting underway.Ever wonder why USN sailors bitch about "idling the car for 8 hours before getting underway"?It takes a while to build up enough sustainable pressure to start the ship moving & keep it moving. You can't just light fires & go.

  • @stoomboot19

no sorry it's not the "glazic ", but this mame mean somethinng in my brain

i will contact you if i remembered something

but you can write to the navy muséum ( in Paris )

they will are intereded to search whive you the destiny of this ship

  • @druisteen1

is the name of that ship "glazic" ???

that was a dutch made steamtug that had worked for the french navy

do you have some more information of this navy tug?

  • @porpoisefathom

the problem is than a museum wanted to salvage the tug boat

but wanted to buy it for 1 fr

but it's a military tug-boat and france doesn't want to sell it

10 years after the boat is a reck and

france will destroy ther last bateau -citerne

this steam boat was made the ww1 and ww 2

( it's a tug boat who have a tank for carry water for a battle ship )

  • @druisteen1 the reason is--steam is more efficient and in todays world , should it ever get out that we could viably use steam again--oil companies would have a panic attack! today we could use instant on demand heaters that superheat steam instantly into the tubes. without need for boilers. making steam so cheap it would undermine oil...
