  • what is ILS ?

  • Instrument Landing System. a radio beam system that gives lateral and vertical guidence for an aircraft to follow the radio signals down to the runway at a constant 3 degree (give or take half a degree) decent rate. One of the only options when in cloud is to fly an Instrument approach, but the ILS can actually be flown right to the ground in certain circumstances, whereas an Instrument Approach leads to a minimum altitude after which a visual approach is made. (or a goaround if not visual)

  • thankS!

  • Was that Auto-piloted down to minimums or Hand-Flown?

  • At 18 sec there is a beep - that's autopilot switched off.

  • This is one of the smoothest landing I ever saw.

Look and learn all you western pilots...

  • Good pilot. Nice landing.

  • @contemporarymonk I think you're right. I've never flown the tu-134 but the whole thing seems rather logical. I'm a first officer on a DC-8-71 and it is somewhat similar.

  • that beep at 18 sec, i think is the Desicion Height horn. it basicaly means if you do not see the runway during the horn then you should abort and try again. The reason i think that, is because at 14 sec you can haer the navigator asks "otsenka" or translated "score", meaning assesment on the landing, at 16 sec the comander says "sadimsja" or landing. at 18 the horn goes off. Not sure, maybe some can confirm?

  • That's interesting V1 is where you commit to take off but on short runway if between V1and rotate engine failure not good new@all

  • A professional's job!

  • @bboucharde you're welcome, nice chatting

  • @wilfredotour2 Yes, I was interested to I had already seen that TU-134 video of the aborted takeoff that you mentioned. Very interesting.

Actually, I am more interested in the TU-154, and some folks mix these up, but not you.

    Thanks for the information.

  • @bboucharde Look for the video "TU-134 crash" and you'll see exactly what I mean.On VR the plane looses one of its two engines and the remaining engine doesn't have enough power for the plane to rotate, climb, and re-land, like it's supposed to do...Instead the plane continues till the end of the runway and disaster happens...The take off of this plane takes a long role so the biggest runway may not be enough...

  • @wilfredotour2 So, are you implying that the loss of one engine at V1 means the aircraft would be forced to abort takeoff, or if insufficient runway was available, crash? Has this happened before? In this case, the aircraft lost two plus part of three and still was controllable to land, with 95% of souls on board saved.

  • great smooth landing, too bad they take 1/4 of the runway

  • @bboucharde take out an engine on VR and we'll see what happens
