Pod samowarem (By The Samovar) (Muzyka: Fanny Gordon /Tekst: Andrzej Włast) Fokstrot z teatru Morskie Oko z rewii „To co lubi Warszawa" (From Morskie Oko revue „It's What Warsaw Likes") Orkiestra Henryka Golda (?) z refrenem (uncredited singer), Homocord (?) 1931

NOTE: I got this MP3 from one of YT friends with a note: Henryk Gold's Orchestra, Homocord 1931. In Syrena-Electro catalogue this song is listed as one of 1931 renditions by Henryk Gold's orchestra accompanying a little known singer, Jerzy Welin. Syrena-Electro matrixes were sometimes circulating between Odeon, Parlophon or Homocord and repressed under different labels. So, does anybody recognize this recording? It's so lovely, I decided to upload it hoping YT friends as usually won't fail and someone will be able to identify this side.

"Pod samowarem" was composed by Fanny Gordon for Andrzej Włast's theatre Morskie Oko where, advertised as "Polish Bublitschki", it was presented in the number "Podróż na księżyc" (Journey To The Moon) in revue "To co lubi Warszawa" (It's What Warsaw Likes). In the very season it was also recorded by a couple of dance orchestras in Berlin (Paul Godwin's interpretation is available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGmUSCzy29Y) quickly becoming an international hit.

  • Lively tune and lovely samovars; they make me crave some hot herbata right now. I've inherited a small copper samovar from my grandparents: too small (and too previous to use, alas.)

  • oh, i just love that Masha at 1:15 !! Can you imagine: to share life & bed wit such body: and these tempting little curls artfully arranged on her forehead! Golden earrings! and these enormous watermelons! almost as big as her breast...wow. Mon Ideal...

  • Another delightful version of this cheerful song. Fanny Gordon was not bad looking at all according to the photo. I remember your notes about her rather convoluted and unfortunate life. Lovely samovar pictures. Makes me feel like a glass of tchai.

  • Yes, she was quite a beauty, though. A rich and attractive Varsovienne of the Roaring Twenties. However, something happened to her brain and she falled in love with a communist Russia. As it's been proved, it was then a common disease in Europe, affecting many intellectuals and artists
