This is a REAL politician named Toyama Koichi that ran for the Prefectual governer of Tokyo "County". Every politician is given equal airtime in Japan to explain their platform, and the TV stations can not edit it and are therefore not responsible for its content. This guy is INSANE! The best part is, over 15,000 people VOTED FOR HIM!!!
And they say there is no hope for politics...

    This is a part of "No laughing" show on TV. I hope.

    When he runs for an election, he has to deposit about 2-3000000 yen. The money is fully refundable if he/she exceeds certain percentage of a total votes (let's say 10%). However,, I mean, of course, he could not get his deposit back.

    Aahh... except it is NOT actually leagues "ahead". It has not "slipped a little in the past year", so much as it has remained stuck in the 1980's for the last two decades. I've lived here for years and it is pretty obvious.

    That some crazy guy like this is out there actually gives me hope for Japan, because even if I don't agree with him, at least he is presenting a strongly opinionated alternative to the mindless status quo of Japanese society in total.
