My continuing look at the Bond film franchise. This time up Roger Moore's farewell outing as 007, 1985's A View To A Kill.

Once again this review went much longer than I anticipated. Wanting to close out the Moore Era in this segment with only one film left I got a bit overindulgent with the time. Plus, working on it at 3am hopped up on caffeine was not a good combination, but what the heck.

This James Bond Review Series will return with 'Part 6 - The Timothy Dalton Stage'

Hey, everyone has their own personal taste when it comes to Bond films. Fans have their own favorites, their own preferences and their own ideas of what a Bond film should be. Which ones succeeded and which ones failed. While one fan might rank one as their favorite, another fan could rank it as the worst. So feel free to chime in with your thoughts, but please try to keep it above a third grade level and be respectful of other Bond Fans opinions.

  • Hey, Haphazard, want to know if you can breathe air escaping from a tire? Call Mythbusters. :) (Oh, and by the way, there was a simliar scene in Jason Staham's "Transporter 3".)

  • I caught that scene in Transporter 3 and immediately thought of Roger doing it in A View.

Good idea with Mythbusters on this one. Which reminds me I've been meaning to watch their MacGyver ones....

  • I think Moore did a very good job considering that he took over when the Bond series was in the doldrums (relatively speaking) and kept the audience with the series for another 12 years or so. Not easy for any actor to play a larger than life character like Bond and while Moore's interpretation has flaws which are more obvious now in retrospect, he deserves the gratitude of the producers for keeping the series as one of the most popular in history.

  • I like "A View to a Kill". The commentator says it's not a very good one, yet he dedicates ten minutes to it. I don't know what makes the SF chase look silly. Is it sillier than the St. Peterburg chase ?

  • I do agree though that putting comedy music on the snow chase was really annoying and undone the tension / drama that it otherwise had.

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Very annoying.

  • I think A View To A Kill is one of the best Bonds.

One of the best soundtracks, Roger Moore and his funny lines, one of the best looking Bond girls, a fight on top of the Golden Gate Bridge and a baddie played by Christopher Walken!

    Whats not to like!

  • view to a kill had a good song

  • Very little pay-off? Could've removed the scenes entirely? I would say that trading quips with Patrick McGee, bedding Grace Jones, and meeting your leading lady makes for a GREAT pay-off!!! This review is indeed fair on some points, I'll grant, but too harsh overall...it's not the best Bond, but I like A View To A Kill!

  • His memoir's really good!

  • A View to a Kill was the first Bond film I ever saw.

  • When you're watching (and reviewing) these movies years after they were made you have to take everything with a grain of salt. what's cheesy and over-the-top would have been cool and interesting at the time.

  • Roger looked great as 007 - he could of done an eighth easily

  • This movie proved that Roger Moore could still play James Bond 007 even at 57!

  • Chris Walken [Max Zorin] is the sex.
