Mr. Toru Goto was imprisoned in an apartment for 12 years and 5 months by his family and paid "deprogrammers" in an effort to break his religious faith. Mr. Goto is a member of the Unification Church in Japan.
Is there a more impartial treatment of this incident - i.e., one that wasn't produced by The Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity, aka the Unification Church, aka the Moonies?
Well, they believed the kidnappers. Enough negativity was already spread by the media, so that the kidnappers did not have to do too much effort to convince his parents.

if his family really loved him, they wouldn't have done this to him just for his religion.
Absolutely ridiculous.
