Living in South Central VA. About 10 miles from the NC border. I know people are used to where they live and wouldn't have it any other way, but I've seen what the big cities and all have to offer. But i just couldn't imagine waking up every morning to a concrete jungle instead of seeing what i do now. i love the south. Ronnie really did an amazing job painting a portrait of what it's like to live here.

@poleske The flyingredneck has been shot down by wisdom

@Southernborn761 300 yards short of a clearing the pilot was going to try to set the plane down in.

@bruiser1911 well there was fire shooting out of the right engine. Because the pilots were running it so rich. to get it to stay running. This lead to them running low on fuel. in the tank for that engine. the co-pilot was trying to transfer fuel from the tank of working engine to the fuel starve engine's fuel tank. But in the pannick. He thought he was transfering the fuel. but he was dumping the fuel. The fuel for the working engine's was dumped. they were completely out of fuel. 300yardsshort

From what I've heard and read, it seems that there was a fire in one of the engines, so the pilot dumped the fuel to prevent an explosion. Either way, it was fuckin' tragic...
If you haven't listened to "Angels and Fuselage" by the Drive-By Truckers, you should. It will either give you chills or make you cry yer ass off...maybe both...

another damn good one from skynyrd

In Ronnie's Best Country Artwork All I Can Do Is Write about It, a year before the plane crash that ended his life, Skynyrd and the Dixie Rebel Holler of Southern Rock, he angrily warned and wrote about how life in the South was being threatened by concrete development-Ameerica itself is changed 35 years later. Yet in a strange and sad way nothing really changes at all and that is a damn shame! In my favorite Skynyrd song, Ronnie asked "You better listen to my Song!" Skynyrd will live Forever!

@THEFLYINGREDNECK
1 You can not speak for all of Dixie
2 What has Obama done to indicate a hatred fro Dixie
3 This song is clearly about the environment, the concrete creeping is clearly a metaphor for urban expansion and the destruction of rural environments.
You are trying to abduct the message of Lynrd Skynyrd to promote your own political agenda. In this way you are breaking down the traditional values lauded in this song and reverse the progress these prophetic musicians helped create.
