WHAT STYLE MERCURY HAD FOR 1956! THE LIGHTNING BOLT CHROME SPEAR ON THE SIDE SEPERATING TWO TONE PAINT SCHEMES, LEAD TO THE HUGE OBLONG TAIL LIGHTS. HOODED HEADLIGHT THAT LEANED FORWARD OVERSHADOWING THE MASSIVE CHROME GRILLE WAS THE STYLE THAT CAUSED 2-DOOR HARDTOP MONTCLAIRS TO SELL OVER 50 THOUSAND ALONE. STAINLESS STEEL TRIM GRACE THE HEADLINER BRINGING A FLASHY TOUCH TO THE INTERIOR. CHROME, A DEEP DISH STEERING WHEEL, AND ALSO ACCENTED THE DASH AS WELL AS AROUND THE DOORS OUTSIDE AND THE ROOF LINE. THIS MONCLAIR IS TOP OF THE MERCURY LINE AND IN DESCENDING ORDER WAS THE MONTEREY, CUSTOM, AND AT THE LOW END, THE MEDALIST. THIS HARDTOP COST $ 2,765 AND WAS THE TOP SELLING MONTCLAIR MODEL. MORE THAN THE HARDTOP SEDAN, THE SPORT 4-DOOR SEDAN, AND THE CONVERTIBLE COUPE. CHECK OUT THE SPARE TIRE IN THE TRUNK. I AM NOT SURE IT'S THE ORIGINAL SPARE SINCE THE LABEL IS NOT YELLOWED FROM AGE BUT IT'S A NICE TOUCH FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES. I REALLY LIKE MID-FIFTIES FORD PRODUCTS AND THIS MERCURY TO ME IS THE ULTIMATE FOMOCO PRODUCT. THERE WERE 17 CHOICES OF PAINT COLOR. THANKS VERY MUCH FOR VIEWING THIS NIAGRA BLUE AND CLASSIC WHITE BEAUTY.
The 55 and 56 look quite similar, but the sweeping side trim really added something to the 56. Love the bright interiors of that era. So many cars now days seems like you are sitting in a dungeon. I think 56 was the first year that Mercury had a 12V battery. This car really is super detailed

@cheddyrod I like everything about this Merc. The bright trim, side design lightning bolt, huge tail lites, two tone colors, brilliant interior, etc. This is the kind of fifties Ford product I'd like to acquire someday. And I think that 56 was the first year of the 12v system. Always glad to hear your comment. Many thanks.

@lllllll5s I'll say! This is the kind of car I'd love to own. Close to my favorite car, the 55 Lincoln.
