This lesson, sign language in the classroom part 1, will share the benefits I have found in using American Sign Language, ASL, in the mainstream elementary classroom (specifically K and 1st grade but can be adapted to other grades).
You will then see examples of how to use sign language in the classroom through morning meeting with the calendar and alphabet charts, as well as classroom management techniques.
You will also see examples of how to incorporate sign language into your word study portion of the school day to help learn, retain and spell sight words.
What a great way to engage all learners with different modalities used and to differentiate instruction! See my website!
