This is one tune from a concert I recorded on Aug. 12, 2006, on Washington Island, WI, of the Red Rose Ragtime Band. Joan Reynolds, piano; Art Davis, trumpet; Kim Cusack, saxaphone; Tom Bartlett, trombone; Steve Ley, tuba; Jack Meilahn, banjo; and Wayne Jones, drums.

  • No fuss,no bother, just a good steady beat turning out some very listenable-to jazz. Thanks Ailene

  • You're very welcome and thank you for such a nice comment. I'll pass it along to Joan Reynolds, the leader of the Red Rose Ragtime Band.

  • First of all, thank you so much for posting this. The Dixieland version Love Songs of the Nile is one of my favorite songs of all time. This is a beautiful sweet version.

Second of all, if you want to hear an absolutely bravura performance of this song, check out Nightblooming Jazzmen's version on their Creole Belle CD. When I heard them do it live, it was so good I almost fainted.

Anyway, thanks for posting so much Red Rose. What joy you have brought me.

  • Thanks, Ailene for putting this clip on. I don't see the guys often enough (for the rest of you, I'm a founding member of the band who left Chicago some time ago).
