  • Agreed. He actually wasn't even a trained professional actor. He was just a prop man and set decorator Lynch had hired to work on the series. The whole BOB thing came out of a complete accident when he was accidentally reflected in a mirror when they were shooting the scene in the pilot where Laura Palmer's mom is lying on the couch and sits up screaming.

Sadly, he died of a heart-attack at the age of 45 back in 1995, so you're right - he'll never have that chance.

  • @710yep :'( Poor Frank Silva...a hugely underrated and under-noticed TV actor, T.P. just would not be the same without him....hugely missed...Shame there is practically no info on him online, one source says he died of aids, another that he died of a heart attack, both cite wikipedia as a source and wikipedia cites one of them as sources so none of them are reliable really...

  • @SROCeallaigh Agreed on all counts.

The inhabitants of the black lodge have what's called "blue and orange morality". That is to say, while WE might see them as good or evil, the typical human morality (black/white) really cannot be applied to them: They are alien beings. Utterly beyond our limited human ethics. Even B.O.B. is beyond our morality, though certainly more chaotic than the others.

  • I thought that Donna was sooo dead when I first saw this.

  • @SROCeallaigh

Bob took up residence in George Bush

  • @selphiealmasy8 i prefer to see it as something more ambiguous (how much and exactly when Leyland was totally (or partially) possessed by Bob is unclear, especially in the film, which I love...And the Native American/Tibetan mysticism woven in and the whole surrealistic/otherworldly nature makes me think that the black lodge and its spirits are beyond good and evil, unfathomable perhaps...maybe Bob is just pure 'chaos', what I find a nicer, less Christian alternative to 'Evil'...

  • I doubt that in this scene BOB is feeding on Leland's sorrow. BOB seems primarily in control during the whole of this scene and not Leland. Wise had a nice way of contrasting when BOB was in control from when it was just plain Leland. He did it by the change in his voice, by his breathing, by the way he would look at someone. I would more believe that BOB would be feeling his own sorrow for losing Laura as his next host, having just been reminded of her via Donna. Laura was BOB's obsession.

  • @SROCeallaigh I don't believe that BOB healing Leland indicated that he wasn't pure evil. He healed Leland for one reason: So the wound would not be discovered, by the police, any doctor or by Leland himself. If he left that specific injury and it was discovered BOB's host would be revealed. It was as purely selfishly motivated as most of BOB's actions.

  • @710yep Bob's such a fascinating enigma as well, would have loved to find out more about him...there are hints like this and when he supposedly heals Leland that he is not pure 'evil'...Lynch teases us as usual by introducing us to this nightmarish but fascinating spirit realm for only a relatively short part of the series...

  • @000nuckinfuts000 One of my friends has said exactly the same thing; he was likely to be influenced by Bacon. Have you seen Lynch's paintings? They also resemble Bacon's work. Thanks for the comment.
