I would prefer a thousand people with Vijay Iyer's unique sense of musicality than a thousand Bud Powell clones. Some people choose to root themselves in the lineage of the piano (like Mulgrew Miller or Bill Charlap) and some, like Iyer, have chosen to divert from linear history and draw from all historical influences simultaneously.

It sounds a lot like Esborn Svensson. So this means it's a genius!

Interesting that they used the high-stick on the piano and then muffled it with moving pads-

I might even add that people didn't like what Miles Davis did when he released Bitches Brew (he was influenced heavily by Hendrix at the time he wrote that album). Miles was also a very forward thinking composer. He's the one who got Hancock to play the Rhodes. It's the innovators that keep music fresh. But of course, we should always "celebrate the past."

So well stated---I prefer insights like yours to those of xGuttera Loungex "Jazz purists sicken me". Your statement is much more informative and positive.
