It protects the clear plastic surface for the laser, but what about the actual foil surface which is just under the cd label on the top side of the cd, once that part gets scratched, your data is 100% gone for good.

Well if anyone in the UK wants to buy these I got some from DSkins Direct. Now I've got all my games and music covered. Trust me it's worth it; much to my regret only after I had finally scratched up my £40 Call of Duty beyond repair and some other music albums. Ouch :(
