Wow

@impromptu07 He was in the midst of his first world tour, when the plane he was in crashed into a mountain. He was 31.

...liistened to this again thru like Sennheiser cans...no, should not have said "Ravelian delicacy"...
-
...with Mr.K. not particularly inclined to beat out nasty sounds out of the piano, this has almost Ravelian delicacy...which, with the usual sledge-hammer you get these days, is not so bad...

I am very happy to discover William Kapel here on YT!!! I am on a way to find all of his performances!!!

Powerful and Exalted!

If only Kapell'd lived longer... He's one of the greatest interp.'s known to me.
-
perhaps the best recording i've ever heard of this..... the sheer vitality of his playing is astounding!

must have been a great experience to hear this pianist live in a concert.... everybody knows that Horowitz was but Kapell must have been even more fascinating.... The reeditions of his recordings were done very recently and there should be done more.... all piano students should have full access to these recordings.
He gives the best example how to play.....
Tremendous spiritedness and symbolism packaged into this performance. William Kapell hangs onto every note, never overpowering the orchestra. To me he is the James Dean of piano, too short a life but had a good enough output to keep him in the spotlight of main contenders. Thank you for this excellent set.
