  • Excellent my Gus...you are..you are¡

  • What a beautiful synphony. Bravo Gustavo, Bravo GSO. It's time the Venezuelan Orchestras to perform inextinguishable" as a normal repertoir

  • @jgesselberty The slow movements are fine. I have been so used to perfection in harmony myself, whereas Nielsen has this habit of random and, perceptively deharmonised insertion of instruments that makes me cringe. I think it is the Inextinguishable that i first heard that made it difficult, the first movement of the 4th is easier to deal with i noticed after a careful listen.

Well i will have to work my way through them with an open mind, originality is everything after all.

  • @Tyrfingr Unlike you, I did not have to struggle. The first time I heard Neilsen, I was mesmerized. A careful listen will reveal the influence of Brahms, especially in the slow movement. But, my friend, we all have our own likes and dislikes, and you can't go wrong with Beethoven and Mendelssohn. Enjoy.

  • @walshamite Perhaps you're right. I have all his symphonies on LP from -88 laying around here somehwhere. I guess i will have to give it a serious shot when im in the mood.

  • @Tyrfingr I predict with more exposure, you'd soon find Nielsen was addictive, as I and so many have.

I think the 4 Temperaments is a great one to get to know. The slow mvt is just so moving... beautiful.

  • @jgesselberty I was at the performence of this piece here in Gothenburg but i went mainly to hear Beethoven's 1st that was played that day and Mendelssohn's violin concerto by Sarah chang. Nielsen was an addition, never listened to any of his pieces before. To my ears it sounded pretty disharmoneous and unbareable, one of those composers i would really have to struggle to like. And it's not often i say that about classical pieces.

  • One of the greatest symphonic masterpieces of the 20th century. Yet, so few audences have heard it. Like Mahler, Nielsen's time will come.

  • how beautiful and magical was that, unbelieveable the perfection of north with the passion of south, perfect mix, what next guys I would love a salsa symphony ;)

    Amazing work
