Today we take a look at the three versions of The Lost Vikings 2. We look at the opening cutscnes from both the Sega Saturn and Playstation versions of the game followed by a little gameplay. Then we look at the opening cutscene and some more gameplay from the superior SNES version of the game.

  • The voice actors do a very professional job, it's one of the game's highlights. Baleog sounds a bit like an Eastern European though.

It's hard to argue against the CD-games sound work or even the obvious qualities of the CD-medium for that matter.

The characters here have become rendered caricatures, some of which look really grotesque. The low resolution fails to make the model's details recognizable in-game.

SNES-version has more and better animation, e.g. when grabbing ropes from a free fall.

  • @schtolteheim It really is a personal prefference. I think everything about the SNES version is better. I can read the dialogue faster than listening to the annoying voices, the way the game feels and controls is better on the SNES version. I think you can really tell a different company handled the PSX/SAT versions.

  • I remember as a kid, loving the first lost vikings, and being upset that there was no Canadian release of the sequel for some reason. All I saw was the 32 bit / PC pre-rendered version in magazines.

And back then, I thought the 32-bit version was some incredible upgrade that I'd never play (since I didn't have any 32 bit consoles yet) But looking back now, with them side by side, I appreciate the digital sprites a lot better. The SNES version just l looks and sounds like the REAL sequel.

  • @mangaas Man I never knew about Lost Vikings 2 until about 2008 or so. When I started getting big into collecting and the youtube community. But I pretty much agree with you 100%. The SNES version just feels like a sequal to the first and the 32 bit versions just feel...wrong. And I played the 32 bit versions first..so there's no nostalgia..just a prefference for one art style over another.

  • @mangaas Also Blizzard didn't actually program the PSX/SAT versions it was contracted to another comapny. A detail I didn't come across until a day or two after posting this review. I made note of it in one of my podcasts. :D

  • Nice =) Enjoyed this while eating pizza..and almost choked to death about the dick head joke lol.

  • LOL glad you liked it.

  • WTF!?????

  • Oh man! Jim Cummings not only is the Narrator and Olaf, he also lends his awesome bad guy voice to Tomator as well!

I think I'll get the PS1 version as well as the SNES version, since I love the voices!

  • Dana Gloud? Gex

  • there is a pc version that is best

  • you know im really surprised they never ported this over to the Wii or even other consoles. They could have had a special addition with 1 & 2 on one disk. I mean come on, The opening graphics look better then some wii games.

  • Whoa, Jim Cummings Impersonator Impersonators!

  • I prefer the snes version and I also wanna say that the scenes of the vikings look more smoother on the psx than sega saturn.

  • @JerryTerrifying Im with you Jerry... I have a place in my heart for The Lost Vikings and just discovered this gem had a sequel recently, gonna buy it wherever I can find it. 32 bit versions just look too different... SNES version is best =]

  • @schtolteheim SNES is much more true to the original (series) in appearance. I hate the way they look in the PS and Saturn version, just TERRIBLE. The voice acting is ok... not somethng to actually point out as a highlight though because reading those Box's is enough. It's just the retro feel to SNES that I like so much. While there are obvious changes to the characters... in the PS and Saturn version it goes too far in appearance... while the SNES version doesn't.
