  • How did you train him to bring things to you?

My parrotlet is kind of laid back, so I don't know how to teach him when he's not very motivated by anything.

(My lovebird that lives with him picked up on things a lot quicker than he did..)

  • @hideous10 Fetch was taught in a few steps... *(I don't have much to suggest if your p'let is not food motivated lol)* Praise and treat after each success.

    For fetch...

    1) When he'd touch the toy

    2) I let him watch me put a seed under the toy so he would have to lift it up to get it

    3) Repeat step two, no treat under, but on my hand so he'd drop it in my hand

    4) From table, treat was beside my hand, I'd try to catch it but only treat when I got it, he caught on

    5) Move hand further away

    :)

  • @hideous10 Do you feed seeds in your p'let's diet? If so, try to check out a bulk food store for a different type of seed mix to offer as treats only. If not, try just a standard cockatiel mix. Also, millet spray... I don't know a bird alive that won't take to millet spray. The smaller the seed the better since it won't take them long to eat or fill them up quick so they'll come back for more right away.

  • Amazing!! How do you train your parrotlets I had mine for 1 year and he only really knows kiss hand feeding step up and down

  • @PenguinNinja45 Bonsai is very food motivated.. He'll do anything for seeds since they are not a part of his daily diet. I read a lot off the net to teach. Good luck. :)

  • Is your parrotlet considered a normal green?

  • @naenae52 Yes, Bonsai is a normal green parrotlet. The males will have a blue streak of color by their eyes.
