"Chi é mai, chi é qui in sua vece?...V'ho ingannato, colpevole fui...Lassù in cielo" The final duet from Verdi's Rigoletto.
Lawrence Tibbett (1896-1960) and Lily Pons (1898-1976) sing in this production from 1935, when both were in peak form. From the Metropolitan Opera, conducted by Ettore Panizza.

  • Both singers are indeed in peak form even though the performance falls short of the marvelous Galli-Curci and De Luca partnership. Gilda was one of Pons' best roles, and Tibbett was a great Rigoletto.

  • Someone requested more info about this recording. Lawrence Tibbett and Lily Pons sings along with Frederick Jagel. This performance much probably is from 28th December (1935) with Chorus & Orchestra of the Metropolitan Opera (New York) with Ettore Panniza as conductor. Naxos has published the complete recording that sounds really great! ("Inmortal Recordings": Ref. 8-110020-1).
