I always thought the lyrics where straight-forward - it's about unrequited love. The caracter has lost all that mattered to him, and is desperate to get it back by any means (cheap sex, and movies), and is a halfstate of hopefull selfdelusion of that he might get him/her back, but also has to face that I might also never happen. His entire world is falling apart as he decides to end his life, still trapped in the bipolar state, as he hopes to see his/her love again, even beyond death...

dude, you never say that kind of things, you don't know where this guy has been or what he's going through. about the "in this world to enjoy and be happy about" part, many great minds got depressive because they found a pattern in everything so everything was boring, and nothing was new. there's a lot to be sad abou, possibly more than things to be happy about, it's just a matter of how you deal with these things
