Croatia will become the 28th Member State of the European Union following a vote by MEPs, which was the highlight of this week's plenary session in Brussels. Parliamentarians also discussed preparations for the following week's summit of EU leaders, approved the EU's budget for 2012 and quizzed new European Central Bank President Mario Draghi on future ECB policy. Development policy was under the spotlight as Irish EPP Group member Gay Mitchell presented a report on how the EU targets and spends foreign aid.
