I think the pianist's name is Pierre Barbizet. Apparently he was a well-known teacher and conservatory director in France. Strange that he's not even in Wikipedia unless you go to the French version. Some of the best chamber music piano playing I've heard. It seems to be a very special piano too.

the pianist plays by heart!
Excuse me, the pianist is NOT an "accompanist". It's a sonata for violin AND piano.

It's not about "agreeing" about whether it's a sonata for violin or a sonata for violin and piano. Cesar Franck composed this work entitled "Sonata for Violin and Piano in A major". That's what it is and that's what it always will be. The parts are equal in importance and difficulty and it's pretty apparent in every famous recording.
It takes both an excellent violinist AND pianist to give a convincing performance.
